From Electronic Architecture to Reliable Hardware

Designing the Hardware Behind Reliable Systems

Electronic hardware is more than a PCB. It is the foundation that connects processing, power, communication and physical interfaces into a coherent system.

From my experience, electronic hardware is approached as an engineering discipline in its own right, with a focus on architecture, integration, signal integrity and reliability in demanding aerospace, space and defense applications.

The objective is to turn complex hardware constraints into sound engineering architectures, supported by practical analysis, reusable methods and rigorous verification.

The Engineering Challenges

Hardware Architecture

Every electronic system begins with architectural decisions. Component selection, interface definition, power distribution, clocking and partitioning establish the foundation for integration and long-term reliability.

High-Speed Digital Design

High-speed interfaces introduce challenges that extend beyond schematic capture and PCB routing. Signal integrity, return paths, impedance control, timing constraints and power integrity must be considered together.

FPGA-to-Board Integration

An FPGA cannot be treated as an isolated component. Its power supplies, clock networks, configuration interfaces, I/O standards and external components must work together as a coherent hardware system.

Reliability by Design

Environmental constraints, electromagnetic compatibility, thermal behavior and verification requirements influence hardware architecture from the earliest design stages. Addressing them early helps reduce integration risks and costly redesigns.

From Engineering Problems to Reusable Solutions

I explore recurring hardware engineering challenges and develops practical approaches to solving them.

The focus extends beyond individual designs to reusable engineering methods, technical tools, reference architectures and knowledge that can be applied across multiple projects.

Where relevant, these approaches are informed by aerospace engineering practices and standards such as DO-254, DO-160 and applicable ECSS requirements.
